This week in netball: Langman retires, SSN signings and NZ Cadbury Series
THIS week in netball saw a heap of excitement, with the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball (SSN) season complete last weekend and the beginning of Draft Central‘s postseason SSN content following the Melbourne Vixens’ maiden SSN grand final victory. In international netball, the Netball New Zealand Cadbury Series began on Wednesday with Silver Ferns coming out on top after four exciting games of competition between the Ferns, New Zealand Men’s, New Zealand A’s and New Zealand Under 21s.
Along with plenty of content, this week also saw the retirement of New Zealand and Sunshine Coast Lightning figurehead Laura Langman among a couple of intriguing changes across SSN, with Adelaide Thunderbirds’ Kate Shimmin and Sasha Glasgow delisted, as was West Coast Fever’s Kaylia Stanton. While Glasgow has now been picked up by the Fever as Stanton’s replacement, there is yet to be any word on the likes of Shimmin and Stanton, or midcourters Chelsea Pitman and Mahalia Cassidy. Collingwood Magpies have announced the pickup of smooth mover Kalifa McCollin, while GIANTS youngster Sophie Dwyer has been offered a full-time squad position for the 2021 season. Unfortunately, due to her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury and subsequent recovery time, Ingrid Colyer cannot be re-signed for 2021 given she was no longer under contract with West Coast Fever.
