TONIGHT’S action in the Victorian Netball League (VNL) includes a potentially mouth-watering top two clash between the Geelong Cougars and the City West Falcons.
The Cougars really have been the team to beat all season, and will be looking to maintain that status in the final month and a half of the season.
Their only loss thus far this season was to Melbourne Uni back in Round 5, which they lost by seven goals.
The Falcons on the other hand, are a very distant second to the Cougars. They have had three losses to date, and their percentage is also significantly worse than Geelong’s, to the tune of roughly 34%.
Speaking of City West’s percentage, it is also dangerously close to Melbourne Uni’s, who sit only half a game and 0.68% behind the Falcons, so City West will be looking for a percentage booster soon.
Although if history is anything to go by, that won’t be coming tonight.
Last time around it was a comfortable win to the Cougars, who won 63 goals to 34.
The Falcons will be certainly looking for more volume from their shooters this time around, from the likes of Uneeq Palavi, Tharjini Sivalingam and Madelyn Gray.
After playing her part in helping to secure Collingwood a place in the finals on the weekend, Zoe Davies comes back to VNL level tonight for the Falcons and will be looking to have a big game.
Meanwhile the Cougars are coming off a huge win last week against Peninsula and will be looking for a similar kind of performance tonight. Shooters Zanna Woods and Julia Woolley as well as defender Gabrielle Dwyer were particularly impressive last week, so expect big games from them tonight.
Elsewhere, Melbourne Uni will be hoping to continue their good recent run of form when they take on the Waves, while the Boroondara Express will be keen to build on last week’s momentum with a win over the Hawks. The Southern Saints will be looking to jump into the top four and rebuild their percentage a but when they take on the Ariels, while the final match sees the North East Blaze take on Casey.
