Top two sides continue winning run in junior M-League

ST Therese and WDNA have maintained their winning runs against other opponents, with another couple of victories in both the M-League 17 and Under and 14 and Under divisions. St Therese defeated Peninsula and Waves in the older grade, and TBC in the younger one, while WDNA took care of Darebin in the older division, and Melbourne Up & Comers in the younger one.

In the 17 and Under division, St Therese produced a dominant first three quarters to set up a match-winning lead of 23 goals (40-17). Though Peninsula Waves did hit back with an impressive final term of 10-6, it ultimately would not be enough, going down by 19 goals, 46-27. Liam Mason was productive in the goal circle, shooting 18 goals for the match, while Ben Morgan was just as influential up the other end of the court for St Therese. Connor Drysdale had the tough matchup on Mason in the first half but held his own, named the Waves’ best in the loss.

WDNA had a consistent four quarter performance against Darebin, shaking off its opponents after a close first term. Though the eventual winners only lead by two goals at quarter time, they piled on 46 goals to 26 in the remaining three quarters to run away with the 22-goal win, 61-39. Hayden Zari impressed in wing attack for WDNA, as Nick O’Meara shot 21 goals in the last three quarters and Campbell Brown (28) was also superb. For Darebin, Ryan Francis D’Amour stood tall in centre for three quarters, while Ben Holehouse (13 goals) played three quarters in the shooting circle.

The winning side put up no less than 14 goals in each of the four quarters, while keeping the Up & Comers to eight goals or less. Noah Bacon scored 21 goals in three quarters as goal attack, while Max Major worked hard across centre for the same amount of time. Thomas Lane scored the most goals with 29 in three quarters for the winners. Ayden McCleish was best-on for the Up & Comers, spending a half up both ends, and scoring seven goals when in attack.

In the other match, St Therese kept TBC to just 14 goals for the match in another big win. Though St Therese only scored the four goals in the final term, the damage was done in the opening three quarters, coming away with a 22-goal victory, 36-14. Brodie Lilly scored 19 goals in the first three quarters before going into defence, while Seamus Sullivan played the first three quarters in defence.
