VIC M-League: Mixed Premier Division review – Round 10

REVERTING to Round 1 opponents, the NNE Vipers achieved redemption over the Eastside Sonics in another tight battle and the Geelong Cougars reigned supreme once again with yet another comprehensive performance against the Pasifika Sharks to run out 29-goal victors. In other matches, the Sharks struggled to combat both the offensive and defensive pressure of the Cougars who simply outclassed them at every opportunity while the Parkville Panthers blew DDNA out of the water with a 40-goal win (67-27).

St Therese narrowly edged out the Melbourne City Blackhawks by five goals in a hard-fought battle between the two sides. From the first whistle, the intensity was up with both teams heading into quarter time with 13 goals apiece before St Therese got some separation slowly building their lead at each break. Both sides were without some of their regulars with the Blackhawks missing Tim Marshall and St Therese without Connor Lilly. Clare Johnson was strong in defence for St Therese credit to her arms over pressure and close marking. Johnson was unfazed by the rotation of fellow defenders backing herself in the goal circle and pressuring every pass. The third quarter performance from the Blackhawks was impressive pegging back the margin to just two goals heading into the final quarter thanks to Timothy Lingham leading the way in the goal circle with 10 goals but it was not enough to get them over the line. Simon Cartwright worked tirelessly in defence along with Bess Schnioffsky to try and repel the forward forays applied by St Therese but they just kept coming. The St Therese goalers were accurate throughout the game making the most of their opportunities with Claire Oakley and Josh Clavarino leading the way.
