West Coast hit Fever pitch in ruthless display
THE West Coast Fever have been ruthless against Collingwood, downing the Magpies 80 goals to 53 in an absolutely dominant display.
The Fever really started to put the foot down in the second term and never looked back, and combined with plenty of uncharacteristic errors from Collingwood meant that the visitors were well outclassed.
After a fumble in mid court from the Fever, the Magpies capitalised and took an early lead, before the Fever fought back and levelled things up with the next two centre passes and then took a solid lead.
The Fever were being very patient in attack, keen to capitalise on strong defensive work up the other end.
The Pies had managed to get the margin back to one by the time the first Power Five came along, but instigated by a Sasha Glasgow Super Shot the Fever went on a run and restored their earlier lead.
The Magpies were unusually inaccurate which was not helping their cause.
Ultimately the margin sat at five goals at the first change in favour of the Fever.
Things did not improve for the Magpies early in the second quarter as they continued to miss easy shots and the Fever were capitalising up the other end.
The Fever stepped it up another gear in that term and really restricted the number of chances the Magpies even had a chance to shoot.
The margin got out to as much as 16 goals during the Power Five period, but thanks to two successive successful Sophie Garbin Super Shots, it was back to 13 at half time.
It got a bit more even in the front half of the third term as teams went goal for goal, but as the quarter progressed the home side put their foot down again.
The Fever were continuing to be absolutely clinical as nothing went right for the Magpies.
West Coast had stretched out the margin to 20 goals by the time the three quarter time buzzer sounded, and Collingwood did not look like they were going to back in the game.
And get back in the game they did not as the Fever train kept going at full speed.
Collingwood kept tweaking its on-court line up trying to find the right combination but nothing was working.
West Coast even felt comfortable enough with the buffer that the Fever changed up their line up a little and gave some key players a break, including Jhaniele Fowler.
For the Fever, Glasgow finished with a whopping 10 Super Shots, while Courtney Bruce finished with a whopping 10 gains and seven deflections.
Meanwhile for the Pies, Garbin finished with seven super shorts of her own, while Jodi-Ann Ward (six gains, four deflections, three rebounds, three intercepts) had yet another stellar game.
