Who will Star in the Pulsating 2022 ANZ Premiership Grand Final?

IT all comes down to this.

One match. One hour of netball left in the 2022 ANZ Premiership season, between the Central Pulse and the Northern Stars, for ultimate glory.

It is Grand Final time in New Zealand’s premier competition, with this year’s decided set to take place in Wellington on Sunday afternoon.

Ultimately, it has come down to the top two sides, who both finished on the same number of points despite the Stars registering more wins.

These two teams have met three times this season.

Back in Round 1, it was the Central Pulse who got the win, to the tune of 10 goals.

A slow start really hurt the Mystics that particular evening, only scoring nine goals in the first quarter compared to the Pulse’s 14. Despite the Stars winning the final term, the Pulse won the previous three so were far enough ahead to take the win.

Second time around was a very different result.

It was a tight affair all game, but after a low scoring affair it was the Stars who came away with the win by the narrowest of margins.

Third time around was only about a month ago, and may be the most crucial to look at because the game was held at the same venue that Sunday’s Grand Final will be held at, so the teams may come up against many of the same situations on Sunday.

Scores were level at half time back in Round 10, but the Stars won both the third and final quarters narrowly to take a five goal win.

For the Pulse that particular afternoon, Aliyah Dunn and Tiana Metuarau both shot in the 80 per cent range, while Whitney Souness finished with 28 feeds and 17 goal assists playing the whole game as the Pulse’s wing attack.

Meanwhile for the Stars, Maia Wilson and Amorangi Malesala also both shot in the 80 percents, as Gina Crampton put up 33 feeds and 17 goal assists.

Coming into the Grand Final, it is actually the Stars who are in the better recent form. Including Wednesday’s Elimination Final win, their current winning streak is seven matches long, while in their last three matches alone, the Pulse have lost to the Stars twice.

Both teams do come into the match off dominant wins, but the Pulse have had those extra few days to recover and prepare for the Grand Final.

So after a long, emotional rollercoaster of a season full of twists and turns, who will ultimately cone out on top and be the Queens of New Zealand netball? Stay tuned to find out.

The 2022 ANZ Premiership Grand Final will take place at TSB Bank Arena in Wellington on Sunday June 12. The match starts at 4pm New Zealand time (2pm AEST) and fans can watch via the ANZ Premiership streaming platform or via Kayo Sports if in Australia.
