2020 ATP BMW Open fantasy tennis: Schwartzman claims fourth career title

DIEGO Schwartzman has celebrated his fourth career title – and third on clay – with an eye-opening straight sets win in the 2020 ATP BMW Open fantasy tennis tournament final. He defeated third seed Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, 6-2 6-3 in an hour and a half to claim the title in an easier match than first anticipated.

On from the first game, Schwartzman did not get broken at all throughout the match, instead breaking his opponent three times during the match. The first break came in the opening return game, and before long Schwartzman had a 5-1 lead and eventually took the set 6-2 in just over 40 minutes.

Bautista Agut was a lot better in the second set, matching it with the Argentinian, but unable to strike a meaningful blow on return. His serve regained its consistency, but with neither player being known for their power, it was more of an arm-wrestle throughout with endurance and decision making coming to the fore.

In the end, it was Schwartzman who saluted 6-2 6-3 to win his fourth overall title, and move to a 2-1 head-to-head lead over Bautista Agut. Interestingly enough, the result itself was crucial for the ATP Tour world rankings, with Bautista Agut just 10 points clear of Schwartzman, ranked 11th and 12th respectively. The victory means Schwartzman moves into a career-high 8th in the world, leap-frogging a number of opponents who slipped up this week, while Bautista Agut sits at 10th again.

Both players will look to carry the form into the 2020 ATP Madrid Masters tournament which kicks off tomorrow.

FINAL RESULTS:

[4] Diego Schwartzman (ARG) defeated [3] Roberto Bautista Agut (ESP) 6-2 6-3
