2020 ATP Estoril Open fantasy tennis: Basilashvili claims fifth title with straight sets win over Krajinovic

NIKOLOZ Basilashvili has stunned the tennis world with a massively one-sided win over seventh seed FIlip Krajinovic in the final of the 2020 ATP Estoril Open fantasy tennis tournament. The unseeded Georgian had defeated his higher ranked opponent a couple of weeks ago in Monte Carlo, but this time it was much more to his liking, running out a 6-1 6-2 winner in just 50 minutes.

Krajinovic had been in some great form of late, and was building on his title win at Marrakech three weeks ago, followed by his Hungarian Open final appearance last week. Basilashvili himself had built quite the following in 2020, winning his fourth title in Houston three weeks ago, and now adding the Estoril Open to his list of growing titles.

The Georgian unfortunately ran into third seed Dominic Thiem in the Round of 16 at Monte Carlo, but pushed the Austrian to three sets there after having knocked off Andrey Rublev a couple of days earlier. Last week, Basilashvili suffered defeat at the hands of Juan Martin del Potro, also in the Round of 16 to bow out.

But this week, it was all Basilashvilli who stormed to the title after having one of the toughest draws from the get-go. He had to defeat Hungarian Open winner Kevin Anderson in the first round and Kei Nishikori in the second, as well as French veteran Richard Gasquet and Italian top 20 clay courter Fabio Fognini on his way to the final.

The match itself was a bit of an anti-climax and Basilashvili won 6-1 6-2 in less than an hour, breaking five times to zero and never looked like losing. The result meant everything in terms of world rankings with Basilashvili making a massive jump on the back of some falling away, leaping up 10 spots to 14th in the world, while Krajinovic advanced four spots to 17th.

FINAL RESULT:

Nikoloz Basilashvili (GEO) defeated [7] Filip Krajinovic (SRB) 6-1 6-2
