IT was almost a perfect sweep for the eight seeds in Geneva, whilst five of a possible eight seeds made their way through to the quarter finals in Lyon as the 2020 ATP fantasy tennis tournaments continued on their second day.

In Switzerland, only fifth seed Karen Khachanov bowed out in the second round with all other seven seeds advancing against their higher ranked opponents. The Russian has had some inconsistent form of late and that continued against Argentina’s Juan Ignacio Londero, losing 6-3 6-7 6-3. The only other seed to be on the ropes at any time was third seed Belgian, David Goffin who overcame a second set challenge from Frenchman Jeremy Chardy before winning 6-3 3-6 6-4.

Top seed Alexander Zverev did not have it all his own way but shook off determined Australian Jordan Thompson, 7-6 6-3, joining second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the second round after the Greek talent won 6-3 6-4 against Norwegian Casper Ruud. Fourth seed Stan Wawrinka also won his first match of the tournament with a 6-2 7-6 triumph over Hungarian qualifier Marton Fucsovics.

In other results, Andy Murray crushed Marin Cilic 6-0 6-2, while Chilean talent Cristian Garin did not let up on Romanian Radu Albot much more with a huge 6-2 6-2 victory in their matchup. In the final game of the round, seventh seed Grigor Dimitrov won against German wildcard Philipp Kohlschreiber to advance to the Round of 16.

Tomorrow’s quarter finals sees Tsitsipas up against Dimitrov and Goffin facing Londero in the early games. The second set of matches pits Zverev up against Murray, whilst Wawrinka takes on Dimitrov.

Over in France, it was a little more unpredictable with a big upset on centre court as Richard Gasquet downed fourth seed Andrey Rublev in a smashing. Gasquet was cheered on by the home crowd and never looked like losing, pulvarising Rublev 6-0 6-2 in just 46 minutes of action. He joined top seed Gael Monfils in the quarter finals after the flamboyant Frenchman won in a come-from-behind battle against Australian John Millman, 3-6 6-4 7-5.

The news was not as positive for reigning champion Benoit Paire. The French talent was not able to overcome second seed Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, with the counter punching South American winning 6-4 6-4. Third seed Roberto Bautista Agut also had to fight hard in his first match of the tournament, eventually overcoming Brit Daniel Evans, 5-7 6-3 6-2.

The two other seeds to advance through to the final eight were Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili and Italian Marco Berrettini. Basilashvili took out Czech qualifier Jiri Vesely in straight sets 6-2 7-5, while Berrettini booked his spot in the quarter finals with a 7-5 2-6 6-2 triumph over Canadian Denis Shapovalov. In the final two results, American Sam Querrey got up in a 6-4 7-6 upset over in-form Serbian and seventh seed Filip Krajinovic, while Argentinian qualifier Juan Martin del Potro moved through thanks to a 6-2 6-3 win over Fabio Fognini.

In the early quarter finals tomorrow, Basilashvili locks horns with Bautista Agut, whilst Schwartzman takes on Querrey. Later on, Monfils and del Potro go at it in the match of the day, whilst Berrettini and Gasquet do battle in the other quarter final.
