2020 ATP Geneva and Lyon Opens fantasy tennis: Semi-finalists all in respective top six seedings
THE semi-finalists in both Geneva and Lyon fantasy tennis tournaments have been decided and they are all inside the top six ranked players at their respective events. Whilst the Swiss event saw the four highest ranked combatants make the semis, a couple of lower ranked seeds booked their spots in the French semis.
In Geneva, it will be an all-European semi-finals line-up after the top four players made it through to the penultimate round of action with wins in their respective quarter finals. Alexander Zverev, Stefanos Tsitsipas, David Goffin and Stan Wawrinka will all contest for the title with just three matches remaining in the tournament.
Top seed Zverev won through with an easier-than-expected 6-3 6-2 triumph over former number one Andy Murray to set up a clash with fourth seed Wawrinka. In front of home fans, Stan the Man got up with an equally impressive 6-2 6-4 victory over Chilean clay courter Cristian Garin. Zverev and Wawrinka will now lock horns for a spot in the final.
In the other half of the draw, second seed Stefanos Tsitsipas moved through with an easy 6-1 6-3 victory over seventh seed Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov. The Greek talent won through in just over an hour of match play, to set up a semi-final date with third seed Belgian, David Goffin. The Belgian had the toughest fight of all quarter finals winners with a 6-3 4-6 6-2 win over unseeded Argentinian Juan Ignacio Londero.
Tsitsipas and Goffin will do battle in the first semi-final tomorrow before Zverev and Wawrinka go at it in the second semi-final, in a day of not-to-be-missed action.

Gael Monfils is the sole remaining Frenchman in the 2020 ATP Lyon Open fantasy tennis tournament after the number one seed won through to the semi-finals in a three-set victory, 6-2 2-6 6-2. He defeated Argentinian qualifier Juan Martin del Potro who has moved up the ranks in order to automatically qualify for Roland Garros next week, but on this occasion it was Monfils who was too strong in the matchup.
Monfils now faces sixth seed Matteo Berrettini after he downed Monfils’ compatriot Richard Gasquet in the match of the day. The Italian young gun won 6-7 6-4 7-5 in a come-from-behind victory to move through to the final four late in the day. He now has the biggest challenge ahead of him taking on Monfils, but it is tipped to be a massive contest.
In the other half of the draw, second seed Argentinian Diego Schwartzman had to fight hard but got up with a 6-3 5-7 6-2 win over unseeded American Sam Querrey. The diminutive South American was able to play his cards right and bounce back from a disappointing end to the second set in order to win the decider and book his spot in the semis.
He now faces fifth seed Nikoloz Basilashvili after the in-form Georgian downed third seed Roberto Bautista Agut 7-6 7-6 in a 90-minute thriller. It was the only upset of the day, and Basilashvili takes on Schwartzman in the first semi-final tomorrow. Following that game, Monfils and Berrettini will decide the other finalist.
