2020 ATP Hungarian Open fantasy tennis: Millman holds off Gulbis to reach Budapest semis
FOUR players from four different continents will contest the Hungarian Open semi-finals in what has been an entertaining tournament thus far. The fantasy tennis quarter finals resulted in all four matches being straight sets, with second seed Filip Krajinovic and sixth seed John Millman joining a couple of unseeded, but talented players returning on tour this year.
Krajinovic ended the run of American teenager Brandon Nakashima, defeating him 7-5 6-2 in an hour and 26 minutes to book his spot in the final four. The Serbian was the last European standing in the draw after compatriot Viktor Troicki lost, as did Latvian Ernests Gulbis and fifth seed Croatian Borna Coric.
It was sixth seed Millman who took out Gulbis 7-5 6-3 in 90 minutes. Both players were uncompromising in their attack on the court and it was neck-and-neck for the most part until Millman broke away late in both sets to secure the win. He now has his toughest challenge of the tournament so far in the semis, taking on the in-form Krajinovic.
In the top half of the draw, Juan Martin del Potro and Kevin Anderson looked as if they were in first gear as they smashed Coric and Troicki respectively, with an identical scoreline but sets reversed. Anderson won 6-2 6-1 against Trocki, while del Potro won 6-1 6-2 against Coric as both players wrapped up the match in around an hour on court.
Anderson and del Potro are returning from long layoffs and are set for a blockbuster semi-final with Anderson a wildcard coming into the event, while del Potro is ranked quite low for his talent due to persistent injuries keeping him on the sidelines. Their match will be second in line tomorrow after Millman and Krajinovic face off to determine the first finalist.
