2020 ATP Indian Wells fantasy tennis: Djokovic to face Thiem in final
WORLD number one, Novak Djokovic will look to dethrone reigning champion and number four seed, Dominic Thiem in the final of the Indian Wells Masters 1000 fantasy tennis tournament. Both players made their way through to the deciding match with impressive victories over the other top four players, Daniil Medvedev and Rafael Nadal.
The wins were not just impressive, but they were comprehensive smashings, with Thiem in particular producing some of the best tennis we have ever witnessed. He destroyed the world number two Spaniard in just over an hour, stunning onlookers as he booked his second consecutive Indian Wells final. Thiem won 6-0 6-2 against Nadal in the first match of the day in remarkable circumstances, with a whopping 47 winners that got him out of trouble even when Nadal forced a couple of break points. The Spaniard could not find a way through the impressive Austrian’s game as the fourth ranked star showed just what he is capable of on his day. Now he must contend with the world’s best player, yet to lose a match in 2020.
Djokovic also moved through to the Indian Wells final is easier-than-expected fashion, putting away the third seed Russian in an hour and a half of action. He won 6-2 6-3, breaking three times during the match and it was all he needed to book a spot in the last match of the tournament. After a disappointing 2019 tournament where he lost in the third round to German, Philipp Kohlscreiber, the Serbian star has made it all the way to the final where he intends to take down the reigning champion. In what will be a repeat of the Australian Open final, Djokovic will look to continue his good form from the semi-final against Medvedev where he won 65 per cent of the Russian’s second serve points to continually apply pressure to his opponent. He will need to be at his typical best against Thiem who was just as, if not more impressive in his semi-final.
