CLAY court star, Cristian Garin has claimed a huge scalp by knocking out eighth seed, Gael Monfils in the second round of the 2020 ATP Monte Carlo Masters fantasy tennis tournament. The Chilean has already won a title this year and reached another final, and his form on clay is superb. He was able to overcome Monfils in a come-from-behind victory to post a 4-6 7-5 7-6 win in more than three hours on court. The eighth seed was left disappointed, but knew the Chilean was more than capable of an upset on his day.

Garin was far from the only unseeded player heading into the Round of 16, with four other upsets occurring on day two. Spaniard, Albert Ramos-Vinolas defeated ninth seed, Matteo Berrettini 4-6 6-3 6-4 in two hours and 38 minutes to make his way through to the final 16, while Kei Nishikori and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga both booked spots in the third round. Nishikori in his second match back from injury overcame 11th seed, David Goffin 6-4 7-5, while Tsonga entered the tournament as a wildcard, but looked to be well past his back injuries of late with a massive one-sided belting of 16th seed Stan Wawrinka, 6-3 6-0.

It was more predictable for 14th seed Russian, Karen Khachanov who moved through unscathed 6-2 7-6 against big serving American Reilly Opelka. Khachanov is the lowest seeded player in the top half of the draw, but now takes on world number one, Novak Djokovic in the Round of 16. Djokovic had no troubles skipping past top 30 talent, Benoit Paire 6-3 6-4 to make his way through to the next round, joined in there by a returning Roger Federer who played his first match in months. The Swiss Master dominated Spaniard, Pablo Carreno Busta 6-1 6-2. In the final match, fourth seed Daniil Medvedev had a fight on his hands but came from behind to knock out Canadian teenager, Felix Auger-Aliassime 3-6 6-1 6-3 in two hours and 42 minutes.

The Round of 16 begins tomorrow with some huge games including second seed and tournament favourite, Rafael Nadal up against 13th seed Diego Schwartzman, while seventh seed Alexander Zverev challenges reigning champion, Fabio Fognini. In the other games, the red-hot Nikoloz Basilashvili has a huge mountain to climb against third seed Dominic Thiem, while Stefanos Tsitsipas and Roberto Bautista Agut go head-to-head in the other match.
