2020 Libema Open fantasy tennis: Fed Express to take on Nishikori as Konta faces Riske
TWO blockbuster finals are set for the 2020 Libema Open fantasy tennis tournaments in the men’s and women’s draws following the completion of the semi-finals today. Number one seed and tournament favourite Roger Federer will take on Kei Nishikori in the men’s draw, whilst sixth seed Alison Riske will lock horns with eighth seed Brit, Johanna Konta.
Federer made it through with an impressive victory over third seed David Goffin 6-4 6-3, always looking in fair control of the match to down his Belgian opponent in an hour and a half of action. Now Federer takes on Nishikori in the final after the Japanese US Open finalist won through with a three-set struggle against unseeded Frenchman, Benoit Paire. Dropping the second set, Nishikori regained his composure to book a spot in the final courtesy of a 6-1 3-6 6-1.
In the WTA tournament, two seeded players will face off in what is anticipated to be a blockbuster final. American sixth seed Alison Riske toppled number one seed Karolina Pliskova in a classic three-set contest. The world number 19 is looking to boost her ranking after a poor clay court season and has already started well on her preferred surface of grass. After a struggle throughout, Riske won 6-2 2-6 6-4. It was a lot easier for her next opponent, Konta who after a tight first set tiebreaker, shook off her opponent. The Brit world number 25 won 7-6 6-0 against unseeded Slovenian Polona Hercog, building momentum from such a tight 11-9 triumph in the tiebreaker to race away with the contest in the second set.
