2020 WTA Istanbul fantasy tennis: Martic goes back-to-back at Istanbul
REIGNING titleholder Petra Martic is your 2020 Istanbul Open fantasy tennis champion, defeating Maria Sakkari in a clinical two set victory for her overall second title.
Martic had all the momentum from start to finish, using her impressive serve to put Sakkari on the back foot from the get-go. While Sakkari used her impressive form to snatch back a few points, Martic never seemed to not be one step ahead, playing the fast game with her clinical matchplay and using her service games to full advantage, collecting plenty of aces as she continued to dominate. Sakkari was well in with a chance to collect the first set before dropping her service game to hand Martic the set, and was ultimately unable to back up her solid start in the second.
This back to back win for Martic is a real testament to her work ethic and impressive athleticism, putting in the hard yards to be a consistent competitor at the top level. While Sakkari put in a strong effort, Martic was just too good on the day, running out 6-4 6-3 victor in 75 minutes.
