2020 WTA Italian Open fantasy tennis: Halep collects 21st title

THE Italian Open fantasy final finished with a bang, as third seed Romanian Simona Halep well and truly dominated against Croatia’s Petra Martic for the 2020 fantasy tennis title.

Halep never looked like losing to unseeded Martic, only dropping the one game in the first set to well and truly stake her claim. Serving up plenty of aces, Halep forced error upon error from the Croatian, battering Martic with her threatening attacking play and coming out 6-1 victor heading into the second set.

While Martic had a better start to the second, snatching the second game off Halep, her lack of title-winning experience showed in her response to the third seed’s pressing impact, unable to consistently bring the pressure or collect any consecutive games. Martic’s form here was spectacular but just could not compare to Halep’s wealth of winning experience, seeing Halep consolidate the 6-1 6-3 victory.

This is Halep’s 21st title and first here in Italy after making the final in 2018, proving that she has upped her game just in time for the Roland Garros in a few weeks.

FINAL RESULT:

[3] Simona Halep (ROU) defeated Petra Martic (CRO) 6-1 6-3
