2020 WTA Nature Valley Open / ATP Stuttgart Open fantasy tennis: 2019 Nottingham finalists to battle it out in 2020 semis
HALF of the semi-finalists in both Nottingham and Stuttgart are seeds after the eight quarter finals were completed across the WTA and ATP fantasy tennis tournaments today.
Top seed Petra Kvitova won through to the semi-finals with a convincing straight sets win, setting the tone for the day’s action. The Czech world number eight knocked off her 34th ranked opponent Shuai Zhang in a 6-3 6-2 win lasting 80 minutes. Kvitova now faces unseeded Frenchwoman Kristina Mladenovic, who continued her huge run with a 7-6 6-0 win over Tatjana Maria.
In the other half of the draw, seventh seed Donna Vekic set up a 2019 Nature Valley Open final rematch with Caroline Garcia after downing second seed Canadian Bianca Andreescu. Vekic won easily 6-1 6-2 in a shock result that was originally expected to be a close game. Now Vekic hopes to reverse the result from last year against Garcia, who qualified for the final semi-final spot following her upset of sixth seed, Maria Sakkari. Garcia won 6-3 6-0 in an hour and 11 minutes.

In Germany, the two remaining seeds are still alive in the draw after both Daniil Medvedev and Matteo Berrettini won their respective matches today. Medvedev won his quarter final against Canadian Milos Raonic 6-4 7-6 in a tight encounter to make it through to the penultimate round of action, while Berrettini got up with an identical scoreline against Spanish veteran Feliciano Lopez. The wins guarantee a seed will be in the final against a non-seed with the pair to face off against one another in the semis tomorrow.
In the other half of the draw, big serving duo Marin Cilic and John Isner will meet tomorrow for a spot in the final. Cilic toppled Argentinian wildcard Juan Martin del Potro, while Isner knocked out Australian John Millman. The Croatian was the only three-set winner of the day, regaining his composure after a shaky second set to defeat del Potro 7-6 1-6 7-5. Isner had a much easier time against Millman, being on song with his serve, blitzing the Australian 6-2 6-1 in just over an hour on court.
