2020 WTA Volvo Car Open: Barty and Kvitova to battle for Charleston title

THE WTA Volvo Car Open fantasy final will be between world number one Ash Barty and 13th seed Petra Kvitova after both collected shaky wins over their respective opposition.

Kvitova was always in for a tough match against clay court star Kiki Bertens but pulled through for a straight sets victory despite being taken to two tie-breakers. Bertens put hard-hitting Kvitova through the wringer but couldn’t compete with the past grand slam winner who was clean as ever off the court.

Barty’s fantastic first set well and truly set her up for a solid win, but it was a shock second set that threw a spanner in the works for the Australian when her Ukrainian opposition in Dayana Yastremska gained a valuable upper hand heading into a massive third set. With the two players both holding a stellar 6-1 set apiece, the third set was now-or-never for the 20-year-old Yastremska but Barty proved too good with another 6-1 set to head into the final at Charleston.

The final is set to be an interesting one, with Kvitova currently holding ascension over Barty in the head to head. That being said, majority of those matches were on hard court making this a tough one to predict.

SEMI-FINALS RESULTS:

[1] Ash Barty (AUS) defeated Dayana Yastremska (UKR) 6-1 1-6 6-1
[13] Petra Kvitova (CZE) defeated [6] Kiki Bertens (NED) 7-5 7-6
