2021 Davis Cup Finals set to cross three cities
THREE different cities will host the 2021 Davis Cup Finals late next month, officially putting a full stop on what has been a remarkable year for the tennis. In what will effectively wrap up the ATP Tour events, 18 teams will face off across Madrid, Innsbruck and Turin. The three cities will host two of the six groups apiece before the latter two will wrap up with a quarter final each from the winners of those groups, before they all descend on the Spanish capital for the semi-finals and final, running from November 25-December 5.
Of the 18 teams, last year’s winners Spain automatically qualified for the final, along with runners-up Canada, and semi-finalists, Great Britain and Russia. Two wildcard nations in France and Serbia were also handed entry, along with 12 qualifiers: Australia, Austria, Colombia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Ecuador, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Kazakhstan, Sweden and USA.
The 18 teams are divided into six groups of three. Each of the group winners automatically qualifies for the quarter finals, with the next best two percentages (based on match wins, and then set wins) also booking their spot in the final eight. From there, all matches knockout on the way to the final, to decide the 2021 Davis Cup winner.
