Any player who is announced the 2020 newcomer of the year is immediately touted as one to watch, and that is no difference for Argentinian Nadia Podoroska. Whilst Podoroska began the year ranked outside the top 250, playing a mix of ITF and WTA qualifiers, she quickly progressed with a debut Tour-level semifinal at the Roland Garros as a qualifier, defeating Elina Svitolina on her way and only falling to eventual champion, Iga Swiatek. Her excellent season saw her enter both the WTA rankings top 100 and top 50 throughout the year, completing the season at world number 48 in what was a remarkable rise.
