NEXT up in Draft Central‘s fantasy tennis coverage is the ATP Tour’s Geneva Open. This will be the players’ last opportunity to find some good form ahead of the Roland Garros in just over a week’s time.

FAVOURITE

Alexander Zverev (GER)

Coming in as top dog is none other than consistent clay court talent and 2019 titleholder, Zverev. With a point to prove and plenty of drive to get the job done, the 23-year-old German is top seed as well as the highest ranked clay courter at the tournament, so will be a tough beat for any competitor. Missing the first round thanks to his seeding, Zverev should have a relatively easy draw if Andy Murray does not proceed as expected, meaning his first real snag could potentially come to head in either the quarter finals or later.

CONTENDERS

Stefanos Tsitsipas (GRE)

A versatile player with a quality few weeks behind him, fellow young gun Tsitsipas is not far behind Zverev in ranking or seed so will similarly have a bye in the opening round before taking on one of a few quality young talents in the coming rounds. The Greek talent has had a solid 2020 and with plenty of consistency and an ability to apply a wealth of pressure to just about any opposition, regardless of their ranking, Tsitsipas is well and truly one to keep an eye on.

Andy Murray (GBR)

Murray may have just returned from an early retirement but has not appeared to skip a beat since returning to the circuit, proving a consistent threat and coming in hot here ranking just out of the top 20 despite starting the clay season in the hundreds. With a threatening winning ability and a wealth of experience in competitions such as this, Murray could be a real chance here thanks to his unwavering confidence and recent form.

Cristian Garin (CHI)

Coming in at sixth seed, Garin could be in with a really good chance here if he can maintain some of his recent form. With a quality clay court ranking, Garin has plenty of potential and while he has some quality names among his quarter – and indeed half – of the draw, he is well within his right to pull out some quality performances at Geneva. The biggest name in his draw is ultimately Stan Wawrinka, meaning that could be the end of it all if he does not maintain his consistency.

ROUGHIE

Jeremy Chardy (FRA)

Frenchman Chardy will be hoping for a good start to his Geneva Open campaign, taking on a qualifier straight off the bat. While he has a couple of quality seeds in his quarter the likes of David Goffin and Karen Khachanov, Chardy is surely feeling confident in his claycourt ranking which sees him well and truly in with a chance against either – or both – of the aforementioned competitors.

DARK HORSE

Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER)

While Kohlschreiber may have Tsitsipas in his quarter of the draw, the German talent is well within his right to contest here with all bar two of his titles on clay and plenty of winning experience across his 18-year career. With consistency and a winning ability to boot, Kohlschreiber should not be underestimated even with his wildcard status, able to contest well and outwit his opposition.
