ATP Cup expected to go ahead in 2021

LIVE tennis is finally set to return, with the ATP Cup announced to go ahead in 2021 alongside two other 250 ATP events, according to Italian commentator Luca Fiorini. It has been a long time coming for many tennis stars, with players not having stepped out on court for months given the ongoing COVID-19 situation. The upcoming tournaments are set to take place in the week leading up to the Australian Open.

Given the unprecedented year that has been, the Australian Open is expected to get underway on February 8, later than the usual January timeframe. This delay, however, has allowed for two ATP 250 tournaments to be scheduled while also enabling the ATP Cup to go ahead in preparation for the Grand Slam.

With a two-week quarantine period in place, players and their appropriate parties are expected to arrive in Melbourne from January 15 to be released by January 29 in order to comply with the current COVID-19 restrictions. Therefore, creating a one-week gap between the start of the Australian Open which could allow for the ATP Cup and other tournaments to run.

List sizes have not been confirmed yet for the two ATP 250 Tournaments and neither has the number of teams set to compete in the ATP Cup. However, one thing is for sure and that is team Serbia will be eager to go back-to-back after notching a hard-fought ATP Cup victory thanks to some Novak Djokovic magic. He was aided well by the likes of teammate Viktor Troicki, with the duo turning it on in the doubles to claim the win.
