ATP Fantasy Tennis Rankings post Indian Wells: Raonic the big mover inside top 30
IN an update to our fantasy tennis competition, we have adjusted the ATP Tour rankings accordingly following the conclusion of Indian Wells. We will update both the ATP and WTA Tours once major tournaments are completed and name the key bolters and sliders since the last update.
BOLTERS:
Milos Raonic +7 (#30 to #23)
The Canadian reached the third round of competition at Indian Wells before going down to Rafael Nadal in straight sets. While the Round of 32 was his anticipated finish, Raonic was able to overtake a quite a number of players on the way up to move into a crucial spot ahead of Miami. It means he now sits inside the top 24 which helps him avoid any of the top eight until the fourth round, rather than the third.
Philipp Kohlschreiber +9 (#74 to #63)
After being a shock winner over Novak Djokovic last year at Indian Wells, Kohlschreiber caused another upset, albeit not as large by defeating Hubert Hurkacz in the second round. Unfortunately he ran into defending and eventual champion, Dominic Thiem in the Round of 32 and was bundled out easily, but it still saw him rise substantially up the rankings late in the order.
Marton Fucsovics +12 (#84 to #72)
The Hungarian is having some sort of year and that form continued at Miami, reaching the third round before being blown away by seventh seed, Matteo Berettini. He knocked off Soonwoo Kwon and Alex de Minaur with impressive straight sets wins, and moved into automatic qualification for the Miami Masters. The Hungarian is one to watch.
SLIDERS:
Daniel Evans -4 (#28 to #32)
Only just sitting inside the automatic seeds when it comes to Masters tournaments and Grand Slams, Evans slipped back from 28th to 32nd despite a third round appearance at Indian Wells. After a strong performance in 2019, he did not quite defend enough points, going down to 8th seed Gael Monfils and dropping down the rankings.
Nikoloz Basilashvili -3 (#27 to 30)
Another one who made a minor movement down the rankings, the Georgian also reached the third round before losing out in three tight sets against Daniil Medvedev. It did not stop him slipping to 30th in the world however with other seeds overtaking him from their efforts and Basilashvili dropping points.
Soonwoo Kwon -7 (#70 to #77)
The biggest drop of anyone in the top 100, Kwon lost out in the first round to Fucsovics. It was billed as one of the best first round clashes out there and unfortunately for the South Korean, he was on the losing end of it, smashed in straight sets 6-2 6-1. He slipped outside the automatic qualification spots for Miami, but with a number of injuries currently, he will make it back inside.
