Chile Open: Wildcard and first seed among those through to quarter finals

DAY four of the Chile Open saw mostly predictable results heading into the quarter finals, with only one game not going to plan.

In the match of the day, Brazilian wildcard Thiago Seyboth Wild defeated fifth seed Argentinian Juan Ignacio Londero in straight sets, running out victor in straight sets, 7-6 6-4. A tiebreaker finished off the first set, with Seyboth Wild well in control and racking up five aces to nil throughout the match. Seyboth Wild just dominated on the serve, winning 86 per cent of his first serve points and saving all three break points to remain in control. Londero struggled on the return, only collecting six points from 43 opportunities and only winning 26 per cent of return points.

In other games, first seed Cristian Garin defeated Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in three sets, losing focus in the second after a solid first set before winning a third set tiebreaker to remain in the running. This was Garin’s tenth win in a row, making for an interesting battle in the quarter finals. Third seed Albert Ramos Vinolas reigned supreme over lucky loser Juan Pablo Varillas, tested in the first set by the Peruvian before wrenching back control to proceed to the next round. Meanwhile, Thiago Monteiro served his way to victory against Roberto Carballes Baena in straight sets, collecting eight aces to dominate the contest.
