Early 2022 ATP Tour calendar released

THE first half of the 2022 ATP Tour calendar was released this week, with the first 27 weeks of the year penciled in. With 2021 enjoying a relatively unscathed year compared to 2020, the 2022 season was worked out without too many problems.

The 2022 ATP Tour calendar changes include:

  • Week 1 of the calendar will feature two ATP 250 events running parallel with the ATP Cup
  • The ASB Classic in Auckland was cancelled
  • A new Sydney Tennis Classic one-off event will feature in Week 2 to follow-on from the ATP Cup
  • The Qatar Open has been moved from Week 1 to Week 7

ATP Chairman Andrea Gaudenzi said the ATP was delighted to announce the calendar to give spectators a chance to plan for future events.

“Tennis has had to adapt to fluid circumstances since the start of the pandemic and, while we continue to navigate its challenges, today’s announcement is a positive milestone in our continued return,” he said via the ATP Tour website. “We cannot wait to kick off another exciting season and welcome back to the calendar those events that were unfortunately unable to stage last year. I would like to credit the hard work of our players and tournaments that has allowed us to reach this point.”
