Monterrey Open: Top two seeds through to quarter finals

ONLY one seeded player was bumped out on Day 4 of the Monterrey Open, with first seed Elina Svitolina and second seed Johanna Konta both getting through unscathed in straight set wins.

Ukrainian Svitolina was clean and impressive in victory, defeating Bulgarian Olga Govortsova in straight sets and heading in as the one to beat in the quarter finals. While Govortsova was cleaner on her first serve, Svitolina was clinical and made every point count, collecting points off 80 per cent of her first serve to dominate the battle. Govortsova pushed hard but was unable to chip away at the scoreline, ultimately going down against a tough opponent.

In other games, tenth seed American Lauren Davis retired from her match against Netherlands’ Arantxa Rus, while Konta was composed as she took down German Tatjana Maria after winning a first set tiebreaker. Meanwhile, Slovenian Tamara Zidansek went down to 18-year-old Russian Anastasia Potapova after a stellar comeback saw the young gun run away in three sets.
