MOTHER Nature had a say on proceedings at the Qatar Open, with rain causing serious delays over Day 6 with just one match fully played on the former and matches delayed on the latter.
The only completed quarter final on Thursday was Miomir Kecmanovic completely dismantling qualifier, Marton Fucsovics 6-2 6-0. The Serbian looked keen to get through the game given the weather, and won six of a possible 12 break points, while serving at 77 per cent. The big difference between Kecmanovic and his Hungarian opponent was the first serve points won, with the higher ranked Kecmanovic winning 73 per cent compared to Fucsovics’ 44 per cent.
In the other three quarter finals scheduled for Day 7 given they were unable to be completed on Day 6, number two seed, Andrey Rublev started his clash with Pierre-Hugues Herbert, but only got two games in, with the opponents tied at one game apiece. In the later games, fellow Frenchman Corentin Moutet was scheduled to face experienced Spaniard Fernando Verdasco, before the number one seed and tournament favourite, Stan Wawrinka headed out onto centre court against Alijaz Bedene.
