Raducanu’s roadblock comes to an end
THE SECOND round has been somewhat of a roadblock at the Australian Open for Emma Raducanu, having never managed to get past it any time she has been at Melbourne Park.
That changed yesterday after the Brit defeated Amanda Anisimova 6-3, 7-5 to progress to this year’s third round.
“Fourth time lucky,” Raducanu wrote on the camera lens post-match after the almost two hour long affair.
“This is a slam that I love playing at, so to make it past the second round means a lot to me.”
One stat which proved telling was the unforced errors, with the American recording 44 compared to just 17 from Raducanu.
Raducanu’s next opponent is significantly more difficult, with Iga Swiatek awaiting her in the next stage. The second seed cruised through her second round match against Slovak Rebecca Sramkova, only dropping two games on her way to a straight sets victory.
Things did not go so well for Raducanu’s compatriot Katie Boulter, with the 22nd seed falling to Veronika Kudermetova. Local hope Destanee Aiava also bowed out, despite taking a set off 10th seed Danielle Collins, who certainly endeared herself to the Melbourne Park crowd.
