NOT too many seeds have fallen yet in the women’s singles yet at these Olympics, but American Jessica Pegula added her name to that list after Elina Svitolina beat her 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

In a match that lasted an hour and 47 minutes, once Svitolina got going she progressively got through the sets at a quicker pace.

Although both players got 66 per cent of their first serves in, Svitolina served four double faults while Pegula did not serve any. However, Svitolina served three aces while Pegula served only one.

Svitolina was also a lot better at the net, winning 29 per cent more points at the net than the American did, and she also converted 13 per cent more break points than her American opponent did.

Svitolina’s next opponent will be Czech Barbora Krejcikova, after she blitzed Xinyu Wang in straight sets to have a much easier time than she did in Round 1.

Krejcikova was not the only big name to have a smooth day out on court, with Iga Swiatek, Jasmine Paolini and Coco Gauff all winning in straight sets too.

Meanwhile in the doubles it was a good day for the seeds, with Italian pair Sara Errani and Paolini, Ukrainian pair Marta Kostyuk and Dayana Yastremska and Spanish pair Cristina Bucsa and Sara Sorribes Tormo all among the winners.
