Tsitsipas goes-back-to-back in Marseille for first title in 2020

GREEK star, Stefanos Tsitsipas has gone back-to-back at the Open 13 Provence in Marseille, downing Canadian teenager, Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets. The 21-year-old was able to defend his 2019 title with an inspired tournament, winning his way through to the final and then serving up a treat in the decider with a 6-3 6-4 victory.

The match lasted an hour and 26 minutes, with Tsitsipas serving a delight, putting up four aces, no double faults and serving at a 73 per cent efficiency. He won 78 per cent of his first serve points, and 53 per cent of his second serve points, only dropping a total of 16 points on-serve. It was enough for Auger-Aliassime to break once, but the world number six broke his young opponent three times.

Tsitsipas was also much stronger upon return, winning 59 per cent of Auger-Aliassime’s second serve points, as well as a third of his first serve points on the way to converting his three from nine break point opportunities. Unfortunately for Auger-Aliassime he was relegated to the fifth straight bridesmaid position of his career, coming runner-up at the recent World Tennis Tournament to Gael Monfils after three runner-up efforts in 2019. He has shown he can perform on all surfaces though, making finals on hard, grass and clay court events.

The world number six heads to Dubai where he is now the second seed behind Novak Djokovic following Roger Federer‘s withdrawal. He will take on Pablo Carreno Busta in the first round of that tournament. Auger-Aliassime will instead head to Mexico to play in the other ATP500 tournament there.
