Draft Central’s Collaborative 2022 AFL Women’s Top 50 Countdown: #41 Breann Moody
IN a new exciting collaborative countdown, the Draft Central has teamed up with other independent media organisations to bring a 2022 AFL Women’s Top 50 Countdown. Every weekday from now until December 17, a new player will be named starting from 50th down to 1st, stemming from a combined eight Top 50 submissions. Among those who submitted Top 50s include Siren Sport‘s Gemma Bastiani, Women’s Australian Rules Football (WARF) Radio‘s Peter Holden, and a combined Outer Sanctum team’s Top 50.
Today we continue our countdown with number 41, Carlton Women’s Breann Moody.

Another foundation player making it into the Top 50, the Navy Blue ruck has put together a really solid five seasons at Ikon Park. Breann Moody has averaged 15.6 hitouts over her career for the Blues, playing at least six games per year and providing great service to her midfielders. Aside from a 2019 year where her numbers dropped, Moody has had a really consistent tenure thus far, and is only hitting her peak as a footballer at the moment. The 180cm talent put together a career-best 2021 season where she averaged 11.7 disposals, 3.1 marks – the first time she averaged more than 1.5 marks per game – and 18.9 hitouts.
Turning 25 in March, Moody worked hard at VFL Women’s level in 2019 to really make a difference to her game where she showed she was a class above. Though not a massive ball-winner, Moody had a breakthrough season from an external point of view last year, winning a maiden All-Australian jumper. It was not the first time she had been recognised for her impact, taking out Carlton’s 2018 best and fairest alongside Katie Loynes, whilst also being nominated for the AFL Women’s Rising Star Award. One way she can further step up is hitting the scoreboard more regularly, booting four goals in her five seasons, but with a lift in her inside 50s rate (three per game in 2021), she is getting more aggressive offensively.
Like many players at this end of the Top 50, Moody landed on four lists, with one clearly inside the Top 30 and others in the 30s though also not making four of the lists as well. Expect the All-Australian to continue to build in 2022 and lead the Blues’ ruck division with some other young developing talls coming into the fray, and the departure of Alison Downie.
