A fan favourite and arguably the fighter of 2019, Jorge Masvidal has enjoyed a remarkable rise to finally garner the wider praise that he has long deserved. Hardcore fans know him as a street fighter, famous for his backyard scraps in association with Kimbo Slice, but he is a veteran of the professional MMA game having fought in Bellator, Strikeforce, and now the UFC. Having gone down in a welterweight title eliminator to Demian Maia via split decision and Stephen Thompson in the same year, Masvidal regrouped on the back of 16 months away from the octagon. Upon his return in March of 2019, Masvidal put together three memorable stoppage victories to complete one of the more remarkable individual years in MMA history. On the way, Masvidal inflicted the promotion's fastest-ever stoppage on Ben Askren (five seconds) and took home the one-off BMF belt, spilling some unique trash (or truth) talk as well. That has also opened the door for potential future bouts with Colby Covington, Conor McGregor, and Leon Edwards, with the Cuban-American firmly in the welterweight title picture.
