A former prospect who has now embedded himself among the best of the UFC lightweight division, the world is Kevin Lee's oyster. The NCAA Division II collegiate wrestler adapted his skills quickly to MMA, entering the UFC with a 7-0 record at the age of 21 and winning nine of his first eleven bouts in the promotion. The last of those was a convincing, albeit controversial submission win over Michael Chiesa, where Lee's post-fight verbal stoush with Tony Ferguson would plant the seed for their future match-up. Lee was fast-tracked to an interim title shot against 'El Cucuy', but was punished on the ground despite a promising start and forced to start his run again. While a TKO win over Edson Barboza looked an ideal return, Lee would go down again chasing a redemptive win over Al Iaquinta, and failed in his move to welterweight against Rafael dos Anjos. A highlight reel knockout of Gregor Gillespie has put Lee back on the map though, and he looks like being a real factor at 155lbs as he enters his prime. A victim of the gap between weight classes, Lee could well be one to move up again in the future, too.
