AFTER a week off, the TAC Cup Girls teams are back and raring to go in round two of the 2018 season. This week, many teams have engaged in positional changes for their players, in particular the leaders, making for some interesting contests across the weekend. 

EASTERN RANGES v. DANDENONG STINGRAYS 

Round 2 – Saturday, March 17, 10am
Healesville Sporting Complex

The Eastern Ranges have opted to send Gabriella De Angelis forward this week, after playing in the midfield in round one. In defence, AFLW Academy member, Georgia Macpherson retains her spot in the half-back pocket, after a damaging performance against the Greater Western Victoria Rebels. She will be joined by co-captain, Charlotte Wilson who comes into the Eastern Ranges’ line-up this week. 

For the Stingrays, Tyanna Smith will try her hand in the midfield, after playing in the forward-line last week. Jess Guy-Toogood will also experience a positional change in round two, as she switches ends of the ground to attack in Dandenong’s forward half. She will have the opportunity to work with Grace Hodder, who comes into the side this week to play her role in the forward-line.

SANDRINGHAM DRAGONS v. OAKLEIGH CHARGERS

The Dragons have selected a new-look back-line for their match-up against Oakleigh. Winnie Laing and Sarah Hartwig were stars in the midfield in round one, and will now have an opportunity to test their versatility in defence. They will not be aided by captain, Jess Owen, who will play in the midfield this week instead of in the back-line. Owen will be joined by Abbie McKay, who will try her hand at playing on-ball this week. The daughter of Carlton Head of Football, Andrew McKay played a wonderful game in defence in round one, and will get to have a go in the midfield to demonstrate her great running ability.

Oakleigh has sent Carey Grammar’s Charlotte Moon into defence this week. The 183-cm recruit played up forward in round one, and will be hoping to intimidate her opponents with her height at Healesville Sporting Complex. Blackburn product, Gemma Lagioia retains her spot on the wing after a stellar performance in round one. Meanwhile in the forward-line, Canterbury recruit, Allysha Dyer will get to try her hand as a full-forward, after making her presence known at centre half-forward in round one.

The Pioneers will be without AFLW Academy member, Jordyn Jolliffe this week, which could hurt their chances of an upset against the Murray Bushrangers. However, Bendigo have included Emily Cooper, Shelby Knoll and Ingrid Gould into its round two side, as it looks to add another win to the board to start 2018. 

Murray will also be without one of its key players this week, with Olivia Barber sitting out the round-two match at Epsom Huntly Reserve. The national basketballer had a great game up forward in round one. This has opened up an opportunity for Charli Boschetti, Sophie Locke, and Emilee McPherson, who come into the side with the aim of keeping the Bushrangers’ winning streak alive.

WESTERN JETS v. GIPPSLAND POWER

After their round-one loss, the Jets have gone with a new-look back-line for their clash against the Power. VU Western Spurs product, Eden Cassar will play in the back-pocket, while Melton Centrals product, Emmerson Hitch comes into the side this week to slot into the half-back line. Essendon District Football League Youth Girls best and fairest, Elisabeth Georgiostathis played in defence in round one, but this time she will have the opportunity to show what she is made of in the midfield, as the Jets eye off their first win the TAC Cup Girls competition. 

Gippsland Maroons recruit, Emily Hauesler will play a role in the Power’s back-line this week, after spending round one in the midfield. However, she will not be joined by Jazz Ferguson, who will switch from a half-back to a full-forward to test her skills inside 50. Meanwhile, Bunyip product, Holly Andrews will get to try her hand in the midfield, after playing a role at half-forward in round one. The Power’s new-look forward-line could cause some trouble for the Jets.

GREATER WESTERN VICTORIA REBELS v. GEELONG FALCONS

After being named as full-back in our TAC Cup Girls’ Team of the Week, Lake Wendouree product, Sophie Molan has been moved to the forward-line. Molan will get to try her hand on the half-forward flank, and will be hoping to trouble the Geelong defenders with her own defensive smarts. However, AFLW Academy member, Georgia Clarke will not be joining Molan in the forward-line, after being named as the centre half-back in the Rebels’ round-two side. 

The Falcons will be hoping to continue their great start to the season by sending captain, Lucy McEvoy back into defence, after trying her hand in the forward-line last week. McEvoy did a great job inside 50 in round one, but will be more at home in a position that earned her a spot in the 2017 TAC Cup Girls Team of the Year. She will be able to team up with Geelong West Giant, Abbey Chapman, who was a huge presence in the back-line against the Dragons.

Women’s football fans would be breathing a sigh of relief this week, as Calder captain, Madison Prespakis will take the field at her home ground. Prespakis was troubled by an ankle injury and a concussion in round one, but has utilised the week off to come back firing for a round-two win. Included in this week’s line-up is Sunbury’s Faith Holloway, whose endurance will play a huge part in winning the midfield battle against the Knights. 

Northern Knights vice-captain, Maggie Antypas will suit up in defence this week, after playing a solid game in the midfield in round one. St Marys Greensborough recruit, Emily Clayton played in defence in round one but this time, she will try her hand in the forward-line, as the Knights aim to upset the Cannons at home.
