ROUND 8 of the West Australian Football League (WAFL) Colts was played on the WA Foundation Day long weekend, with the four games played over three days. Catch all of the results below.

WAFL Colts Round Eight:

Swan Districts 15.15 (105) defeated Perth 6.4 (40)

Coming off the bye had no detrimental effect for Swan Districts as they continued to be the standout team of the competition, winning their seventh-straight game in destroying Perth to the tune of 65 points at Mineral Resources Park.

The visitors made a fine start to the contest, leading by 14 points at quarter time. It was 25 minutes of dominance for the ladder leaders where they had 29 more disposals (87-56) nine more inside 50s (16-7) and four more shots (7-3). The Black and Whites extended the lead early in the second term through goals by Jehb O’Donohue and a second of the game to Benjamin Taylor. Kaden Elliott kicked a much needed reply for Perth, but Swan Districts reenforced their dominance on the contest soon after with goals to Kade Screaigh and Ashley Brockbernd.

The 28-point margin at half time was a clear reflection of the level of the play by the two sides with Swans having eight more scoring shots and close to 60 more disposals (164-106). In terms of individuals, Kade Wallrodt led the way with 15 disposals and five inside 50s while Ashley Brockbernd was an exceptionally hard worker with seven tackles. For the Demons, Simon Hayward had a fine first half with 11 disposals and five tackles.

When Jermarl Daly pushed the lead to seven goals in the first few minutes of the third quarter, the game looked over as a contest and it was only a matter of the margin. Swans won their third quarter of the game (three goals to one) and turned for home with a 45-point margin. They finished off the job in the final term kicking another four goals to one and ending the game with a 65-point margin.

It was dominance all over the park with Swans leading all the major categories and having three times as many scoring shots as the opposition. A key element of the big victory was the tandem ruckwork of Bailey Kane and Ryan Letessier. Between them, they shared 52 hit-outs and with that they were able to give their midfielders silver service throughout the contest. As always, Kade Wallrodt had a sizeable impact collecting 26 disposals, taking six marks and taking the ball inside fifty on nine occasions. Sebastian Bright who has had a tremendous season in and around the bottom of packs was prominent again collecting 22 disposals, dishing out seven tackles and kicking two goals. Bailey Smith led the way for the Demons with 21 disposals and five tackles.

South Fremantle 7.8 (50) defeated East Fremantle 3.15 (33)

In the battle of Fremantle, it was the Bulldogs who got the bragging rights with South Fremantle running out 17-point winners on the WA Day public holiday.

Dylan Curley got East Fremantle off to the best start when he kicked the first two goals of the game and they took a 14-point lead into the quarter time break . The second quarter was a complete contrast with South Fremantle kicking 3.4 to four behinds and they took a four point lead into the long break. The Bulldogs had done a fine job in edging in front especially as they trailed quite substantially in all the main categories.

When Eric Botha kicked the first goal of the third term, the Bulldogs had their biggest lead of the game and was then extended when Darryl Anderson kicked his second of the game. Dylan Curley was the certainly the key forward outlet for the Sharks and he was able kick his third of the game to keep them in touch. The Bulldogs turned for home with a 15-point lead despite the the fact they had just 24 inside 50s for the game, 15 less than their opponent. Their defence had done a fine job in keeping the majority of the Sharks forward line under lock and key. One goal in the last quarter was all the Bulldogs needed in the last quarter with Jack Musika capping a solid individual performance with his six pointer.

Conversely, it was a throughly wasteful performance by the Sharks where they had 18 scoring shots and 54 inside 50s (19 more than South Fremantle) yet they could only conjure up three goals for the game. This game was a true illustration that possessions are only worth as much as you actually do with them and the Bulldogs used their disposals to much greater effect.

Manfred Kelly was tenacious throughout the contest and finished with 32 disposals, seven tackles and five marks. He was well supported by Eric Botha with 26 disposals, eight marks and seven inside 50s while George Wessels had 23 disposals and seven tackles. For the Sharks, it was much harder to find good players but Edward and Dylan Curley were certainly standouts. 16 year-old Edward was a solid possession gatherer throughout the contest finishing with 26, five tackles and four marks. Meanwhile, Dylan was the only forward line target who got away from the South Fremantle back six finishing with three goals from five shots.

West Perth 13.13 (91) defeated East Perth 8.6 (54)

A ten goal to four second half was the difference as West Perth broke open a tight first half to defeat East Perth by 36 points at Leederville Oval on WA Day and in the process keeping in touch with the top two.

The first quarter swung in momentum with the Royals getting off to a quick start with goals to Riley Boyd and Kyle Robinson, however West Perth hit back to take the lead into quarter time through Rohan Scurria and Koopah Todd. The second term was a very tight affair, with the teams alternating leads throughout the quarter.

The Falcons had plenty more possession (191-140) but East Perth used their disposals in more positive fashion with many more inside 50s (29-18). The teams traded goals in the early part of the third term but West Perth were able to keep that momentum going, and in all kicked four goals to two in the term to open up a 13-point lead with one quarter to play.

Todd topped off a terrific individual display by kicking last quarter goals making it three for the game. In all, West Perth kicked six goals to two in the last term to seal their very good victory. The weight of quality possession was clear to see with West Perth having 73 more disposals (325-252) leading to 12 more scoring shots on the day (26-14).

As discussed previously, Todd was influential from the first bounce until the final siren. The top-ager finished with 25 disposals, six marks, four inside 50s to go along with his three majors. Callum Johnson was great support with 29 disposals, seven tackles, six tackles and a goal. Adam Boules had 19 disposals, seven tackles and four inside 50s for the Royals while Kyle Robinson and Cody Rodgers were handy contributors with two goals each.

Peel Thunder 9.8 (62) defeated Subiaco 5.7 (37)

The previous night saw Swans’ nearest opposition produce a composed display as Peel Thunder were never headed defeating Subiaco by 25 points at David Grays Arena. Thunder had a typically even spread of contributors throughout the evening led by Jack Sears with 19 disposals, six marks and three goals while Killian Rawson had 18 disposals and ten marks. Meanwhile for the Lions, Isaac Clinch was very composed throughout the contest with 23 disposals and 12 marks.
