2022 AFLW fixture released

The 2022 AFLW fixture has finally dropped, with fans eagerly trawling through the fixture to see who their teams will have to face this season.

After much speculation, it has been revealed that the season opener will be St Kilda taking on Richmond in Frankston on Friday January 7. Carlton has lost its usual season opening honours due to ongoing redevelopment at Ikon Park, while St Kilda cannot play at Moorabbin due to redevelopment works happening there.

The rest of Round 1 sees:

  • North Melbourne take on Geelong down at Arden Street in the twilight fixture on January 8
  • Western Bulldogs take on long time rivals Melbourne in the Saturday prime time slot at Whitten Oval
  • Fremantle take on Adelaide at home
  • Traditional rivals Carlton take on Collingwood at Ikon Park on the Sunday of Round 1
  • Gold Coast play host to GWS on January 9
  • Brisbane will begin its premiership defence away to West Coast in the final game of Round 1

Only the first nine rounds of the season were released today, with the Round 10 fixture to be released in a special announcement over the coming days. Once released, Rounds 9 and 10 will be floating fixtures.

Of the remaining fixture highlights, the Q-Clash is happening in Proud Ride, which is Round 3, while the Western Derby will be played in Indigenous Round, which is Round 8.

The finals series will once again be three weeks long. Ticket prices will also remain the same as they were in 2021

Many usual AFLW venues are undergoing redevelopments, so will be out of action for at least part of the season. This will see plenty of new grounds used this season. They are as follows:

  • SkyBus Stadium, Frankston
  • Wilson Storage Trevor Barker Beach Oval
  • Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex
  • Henson Park, Marrickville
  • Fankhauser Reserve, Labrador
