2022 NAB League Girls Player of the Week: Round 1

MURRAY Bushrangers midfielder-forward Zarlie Goldsworthy is the Rookie Me Central NAB League Girls Player of the Week for Round 1. The top-age debutant started her campaign with a bang, dominating every realm of the Bushies’ 37-point win over Bendigo Pioneers on Saturday.

In one of the best individual performances across the competition’s history, Goldsworthy notched remarkable numbers of 33 disposals (27 kicks), five marks, 10 inside 50s, and 4.4 to stamp her claims as a genuine prospect. Her efforts were enough to beat Dandenong’s five-goal hero Amber Clarke in our poll.

From contested marks inside 50, to eye-catching stoppage bursts and pinpoint kicks, the 17-year-old put on a well rounded performance and outstanding showing of skill. While the soccer convert’s athleticism transfers well, her grip on the footballing fundamentals was just as impressive.

Goldsworthy and her 1-0 Bushrangers will have another opportunity to impress this coming Saturday, as they play host to the Geelong Falcons at Epsom Huntly Reserve. The newcomer looks set to quickly shake the surprise packet tag, if her debut is anything to go by.
