2022 NAB League Girls Player of the Week: Round 5

TASMANIA Devils forward Georgia Clark the Rookie Me Central NAB League Girls Player of the Week for Round 5. The bottom-age prospect spearheaded her side’s second straight win, a 26-point triumph over the Northern Knights at Highgate Recreation Reserve on Saturday afternoon.

Clark did it all in Round 5, presenting as a strong marking target up the ground, but also getting busy deep inside 50 to punish Northern on the scoreboard. She finished with four of Tasmania’s six goals, which came from 21 disposals, eight marks, six tackles, six inside 50s and four hitouts.

After two Victorian Country and Metro players apiece secured Player of the Week honours in rounds one to four, Clark is the first Tasmanian to earn the nod in season 2022. In a remarkable coincidence, she is the third player in a row to do so against the winless Northern Knights. She is also the first 2005-born player to take out the award this year.

One to watch for next year, the 16-year-old played eight games in 2021 but has seriously impressed come the new campaign, booting eight goals in five outings to double last year’s tally. At 173cm, Clark is mobile enough to create separation on the lead and follow up at ground level, but strong enough to mark overhead and ruck inside 50.

With Clark and the Devils currently sitting third in the Country pool at 3-2, they can look forward to a bye in Round 6 before returning to the fold with a home game against the Calder Cannons at Prospect Park on March 5. If their form is anything to go by, another finals appearance may await for the Taswegians.
