GREATER Western Sydney (GWS) midfielder Rebecca Beeson was back in a big way, while Collingwood’s Ruby Schleicher stood up strongly in Round 9 of the 2022 AFL Women’s season. Plenty more players produced big numbers across the latest weekend of AFLW action, find out who as we take a look at this week’s stat leaders.
>> AFLW Talking Points: Saturday | Sunday
Both Beeson and Schleicher racked up a round-high 31 disposals in losing causes, and were the only two players to feature atop multiple key stat categories in Round 9. The former returned to her best form in just her second game back from injury, also registering an unbeaten 20 handballs, while the latter clunked 10 marks and was kept busy as the Pies pushed Adelaide all the way.
Also along the ball winning line, it was no surprise to see North Melbourne accumulator Ash Riddell feature with a high of 22 kicks from her 28 disposals. She continues to lead the league for total disposals and kicks. Elsewhere, St Kilda’s Tilly Lucas-Rodd had a massive day out as her Saints picked up a second straight win, earning 12 clearances as a force around the contest.
It was only fitting that history makers Ally Anderson and Emily Bates tied for top spot in the tackle department this week. The inaugural Lions laid 11 apiece as they became the first-ever AFL Women’s players to reach 50 games, contributing to their side’s crucial win over North Melbourne.
Another legendary AFLW figure in Daisy Pearce also returned extraordinary numbers, kicking a career-high five goals as Melbourne broke a couple of competition records. After Brisbane did so just last week, the Dees broke new ground with the highest ever score (107 points) and winning margin (88) in a statement-making win over Fremantle on the eve of finals.
