2022 NAB League Girls Player of the Week: Round 10
GREATER Western Victoria (GWV) Rebels forward Paige Scott is the Rookie Me Central NAB League Girls Player of the Week for Round 10. The mercurial top-age goalkicker returned to her game breaking best on Sunday, booting three second-half goals from 21 disposals to help her side upset the Sandringham Dragons at RSEA Park. It was the Rebels’ second win of the season, and their first since Round 1.
Having made her name last year with many match winning feats both at NAB League and representative level, Scott had arguably only shown glimpses of that same potential in 2022. She proved her quality upon returning from injury with Vic Country last week, and did so once more in Round 10 – saving her best until last with season-best numbers in disposals, marks, tackles and goals.
Scott has long been lauded for her ability inside attacking 50 and can certainly kick bags of goals, but had her sights set on more midfield minutes this year. She got her stints in the engine room and rolled forward to good affect this season, though she may well find a home closer to goal should she get a chance at the top level.
The quick and creative prospect becomes the first GWV talent to earn Player of the Week honours this year, and is the fifth player from a Country region (including Tasmania) to do so. Scott also becomes the eighth 2004-born player on the list, which bodes well for the talent in this year’s crop.
With only finals left to play out in the 2022 NAB League Girls season, Scott is also our final Player of the Week. Her Rebels finished sixth in the Country pool at 2-7, but we will get to see more of the prolific goalkicker next month as the Under 18 National Championships come to the fore.
