Grand Final Rematch highlights Round 2 QAFLW action

This week in the QAFL Women’s (QAFLW) sees a rematch of the 2021 Grand Final and the Battle of the Unis, when University of Queensland (UQ) hosts Bond University tomorrow afternoon.

Both sides are coming off comprehensive wins in Round 1, but expect a much tighter affair this time around.

Last weekend UQ were pushed by Maroochydore for three quarters, but pushed things wide open in the last term and ran away with the match. They kept the Roos goalless in the last term as well.

Kadie Fletcher was a weapon in front of goal for the Red Lions last week, booting four majors, so she is someone the Bull Sharks will have to keep an eye on if they want to win.

Up the other end, the Red Lions will need to keep an eye on Laquoiya Cockatoo-Motlap, after she booted four majors of her own in Bond’s big win over Wilston Grange.

Abbey Bevan and Shannon Danckert both kicked multiple majors last week too, so Bond Uni certainly have plenty of forward options that will keep UQ’s defenders on their toes.

Things could not have gone much more perfect to plan for the Bull Sharks last week, and they will be certainly hoping that continues this week but will face tougher competition in the reigning premiers. They kept Wilton Grange scoreless last week while piling on a big score themselves, so if nothing else that will be a big confidence booster heading into this week, even if last week’s match was against the reigning wooden spooners.

Around the grounds, and Southport will be looking to continue its stellar start to top level football, when it takes on fellow Round 1 winners Coorparoo. Meanwhile the round 1 losers will do battle in two matches as Aspley take on Wilston Grange, and Maroochydore take on Yeronga South Brisbane.

QAFL WOMEN’S ROUND 2 FIXTURES:

Southport vs Coorparoo
University of Queensland vs Bond University
Aspley vs Wilston Grange
Maroochydore vs Yeronga South Brisbane
