2022 AFL Under 16 & 18 championship fixtures released

Starting on June 11 with a clash between Victoria Country and Metro, the Under 16 championships have undergone somewhat of a shake-up. While the Victorian sides are joined by South and Western Australia in the Division 1 category, the four NSW/ACT and Queensland Academies will compete against the Northern Territory and Tasmania in Division 2 fixtures.
While the carnival-type format has been altered in the interest of ongoing health and safety protocols, the Under 16s will still combine on the Gold Coast for a two-day meet on July 4-5, making up Round 2 of the championships. Otherwise, one-day trips are favoured in Rounds 1 and 3.
It is somewhat the same for the Under 18 version, with only one double-header scheduled as Vic Metro battles South Australia, and Country takes on Western Australia in Geelong on July 17. The carnival kicks off on June 19 as the Croweaters host the Allies – comprising of NSW/ACT, Tasmania, Queensland and the Northern Territory.
In a standalone, outlying fixture for the top-age bracket, Vic Country and Vic Metro will close out the tournament with a blockbuster clash on AFL Grand Final eve (September 23). The final match before than sees SA take on WA on July 24 in Adelaide.
Broadcasting and streaming means are still to be announced, while squads and coaches will be finalised in both categories as players from all states and territories dig further into their respective seasons. Some venues and times are yet to be confirmed, and remain subject to change.
