Lions exact revenge to move into prelim

THE Brisbane Lions are the second team into the AFLW Season 7 preliminary finals, after a 17-point win over Richmond in yesterday’s qualifying final. With scores tight in the first quarter, Brisbane kicked into gear in the second term, booting three goals and not allowing the Tigers any easy possession of the footy. Brisbane continued to add pressure on the Tigers in the second half to run away with the win and earn a week off.

TALKING POINTS

What can’t Svarc do?

Cathy Svarc was a star of the show for the Lions. As the Lions found the game more on their terms, there was a moment of brilliance in the second quarter where Svarc turned the game for the Lions. Kicking the one goal, Svarc had a stellar afternoon, finishing with 19 touches and a game high of nine tackles.

Lions hungry, doing one percenters well

Whilst it was a tough grind for both teams in the first quarter, the Lions forwards and midfielders such as Greta Bodey, Ally Anderson, Courtney Hodder, Dakota Davidson and Belle Dawes did not allow the Tigers defensive end any easy targets out of the defensive 50, being outnumbered in the stoppages and clearances.

As a unit, the Lions did well to spread the field and add quick goals and did well to back each other up and spread the ground well. The Lions defensive unit also played their role in winning plenty of footy, the pressure of the Lions was too much to handle for majority of the match for the Tigers.

Graham and Miller hungry in defense for Tigers

Two players that were a shining light in the defensive end was Rebecca Miller and Libby Graham. Whilst it was not the result the Tigers wanted, both competed hard, and caused disruptions for the Lions forwards.

Tigers last quarter positive

One positive the Tigers can take away from this game was the last quarter. They had the ability to be more aggressive and take the game on, which combined with some brilliance up forward from Katie Brennan saw the side really lift in the last.
