2023 Talent League Girls Player Of The Week: Round 7

AFTER some promising signs in the opening few rounds, Geelong Falcons forward Chantal Mason made it all click on the weekend. During her side’s massive 91-point demolition of Bendigo Pioneers, Mason slammed home seven goals in a starring performance inside 50 to earn our Rookie Me Central Coates Talent League Girls Player of the Week.

Mason packed a punch with teammate and bottom-age midfielder Sara Howley who racked up a season league-high of 40 disposals as well as 11 inside 50s and 1.4, but has also already been nominated as a Player of the Week this season. Mason was just as impressive, just inside the arc as she finished off the great work of her midfielders, but also found plenty of the ball.

Mason finished the day with 7.2 from 23 disposals – 19 kicks – nine marks and three tackles in a dominant day. She had only kicked the three goals leading into the game, but had gradually improved her output which culminated in the outstanding performance in front of the big sticks.

She became the second Player of the Week nomination from the Falcons after Howley, and the fifth – of seven – top-age nominations. She will be hoping for similar performances in the future to put her hat in the ring for Vic Country selection in the coming months.

Mason could continue her form over the next fortnight, as the Falcons take on the winless Murray Bushrangers next Sunday, May 28, before tackling Northern Territory – a side that was belted by another winless team in Gippsland Power on the weekend.
