2023 Coates Talent League Girls Team of the Week: Round 10

EIGHT players from the tight tussle between Tasmania Devils and Gippsland Power made our Rookie Me Central Coates Talent League Girls Team of the Week, with the sides two of three to record a league-high four players. Northern Knights was the other side to achieve four, while fellow winners Sandringham Dragons and Oakleigh Chargers had three, and the remaining three losers had the two players apiece.

Our skipper for Round 10 is Player of the Week, Sandringham Dragons’ Sophie McKay after three goals from 28 disposals. She was joined in the team by ruck/forward Ruby Dale and fellow tall Sophie Crofts who took control of the stoppages against the Western Jets.

From the windy Warrawee Park, four players from both the Devils and Power made the Team of the Week. From the successful Devils, bottom-agers Ava Read and Mackenzie Williams are up respective ends, while double bottom-agers Harriet Bingley and Mia Anderson also made the 24-player squad.

Gippsland midfielder Jasmine Sowden made the starting midfield, with defenders Ella Stoddart and Ash Centra also in the team. Over-ager Alisha Molesworth squeezed onto the bench, with Rebecca Fitzpatrick one of three emergencies.

Northern Knights also had four players in the Team of the Week after their win over Calder Cannons. Ruck Teresia Koliavu was named in a forward pocket given the strength of the talls in the side, while forward Olivia Jesser kicked 3.2 and was in the opposite pocket. Zoe Hargreaves impressed through the midfield and Hannah Scott was consistent once again.

Fellow winners Oakleigh achieved a trio of players in our Team of the Week, as bottom-agers Sienna Tallariti (half-back) and Sarah Poustie (interchange) and double bottom-ager Chloe Bown (half-forward) all earned spots. Winger Jacinta Baxter was one of the emergencies with fellow metropolitan winger, Scout Howden (Sandringham Dragons).

The remaining three teams all lost and had the two representatives in the Round 10 team. Calder Cannons duo Jade McLay and Maddison Albrecht, Eastern Ranges pair Hayley McLaughlin and Georgia Stubs and Western Jets talents Sierra Grieves and Hannah Brodie round out the squad.
