2023 Talent League Girls Player Of The Week: Round 13
CALDER Cannons have gone back-to-back in the Rookie Me Central 2023 Talent League Girls Player of the Week nominations. After Chloe Baker-West was nominated last week, her teammate Maddison Albrecht was given the honours in Round 13 after the pair put Bendigo Pioneers to the sword in a win up in Mildura.
Baker-West and Albrecht combined for a massive 59 disposals, 13 tackles, 26 inside 50s and 3.7 in the win, with the bottom-age winger having 30 disposals, six tackles, eight inside 50s and booting 2.3 herself. It marked the third time a Calder Cannons player had been nominated after Kayley Kavanagh earlier in the year, becoming the first club to achieve the feat in 2023.
The 160cm bottom-ager hit her career-best 30 touches in the game, having recorded double-figure disposals in all bar one game this year. Playing four games at an average of 6.5 disposals last season, Albrecht has taken that next step to lift it to 16.1 per game, and also boot three goals, of course two of those coming on the weekend.
Calder Cannons have a bye in Round 14 before crossing the Bass Strait to tackle Tasmania Devils at Twin Oval in Round 15. After a month-long bye post that round, the Cannons finish off the season against Geelong Falcons and Western Jets.
