In Case You Missed It: AFLW Round 6 2023

IT is perhaps a cliche, but the weekend’s AFLW round of action really had it all. Big wins, tight wins, upset wins, undefeated runs coming to an end, it had it all.

Western Bulldogs (4.10.34) lost to Carlton (8.5.53)

  • Carlton cemented its place in the top eight and kept the Bulldogs winless for the season after a solid win on Friday night.
  • Early forward half dominance set things up for Carlton, and the Bulldogs never got back into the match.

GWS (6.8.44) defeated West Coast (3.6.24)

  • GWS finally got on the 2023 winners list with a well earned win over West Coast.
  • A five goal to none third term in favour of the Giants was where things really took off for the home side, while Zarlie Goldsworthy also starred with three goals.

Melbourne (7.4.46) lost to Adelaide (8.8.56)

  • In a battle of the undefeated sides, it was the Crows who prevailed in a hard fought battle.
  • The Crows brought a new level of pressure and beat the Dees at their own game, to remain the last undefeated team standing.

St Kilda (7.3.45) defeated Hawthorn (5.6.36)

  • St Kilda won a third game in a row for the first time in their history, defeating Hawthorn.
  • The win was however soured with what was later confirmed to be an ACL injury to Stephanie Chiocci.

Port (3.12.30) lost to Sydney (6.9.45)

  • Sydney got back on the winners list with its first ever away win.
  • It fought off a dogged Port Adelaide side that will rue inaccurate kicking.

Brisbane (3.10.28) lost to Collingwood (5.3.33)

  • Collingwood pulled off the upset of the weekend with a hard fought win over Brisbane.
  • The Lions certainly had their chances to win, but were inaccurate in front of goal which ultimately proved costly.

Essendon (4.5.29) defeated Geelong (2.7.19)

  • In a reversal of the equivalent fixture last year, Essendon has bounced back to the winners list with a win over Geelong.
  • Geelong had the ascendancy early, but Essendon turned things around in the third term and pulled away in the last quarter to take the win.

Richmond (5.5.35) lost to Gold Coast (5.6.36)

  • In an entertaining clash, it was the Suns who ultimately got back on the winners list in a nail biter.
  • Despite a late Tigers push, one last late behind sealed the deal for the Suns.

Fremantle (3.3.21) lost to North Melbourne (10.6.66)

  • North Melbourne picked up a crucial win on the road after comfortably defeating Fremantle and jumping to second on the table.
  • The Kangaroos really kicked away in the second half, scoring six goals to none.
