Prowse praises process after Crows’ huge win

YOUNG Adelaide defender Zoe Prowse was buzzing after her side’s win over Melbourne in the AFL Women’s on Saturday.

“I’ve got no words really,” she said as she tried to describe how she was feeling post-match.

“(It) hasn’t quite settled in yet, but it was a pretty important game, pretty big game, it’s so exciting and great to be a part of it.”

She certainly agreed that the fact that it had been the reigning premiers and premiership favourites that her side had beaten added to how special the win was.

“100 per cent,” Prowse said. “Obviously they’re an elite team and so to be able to come out and beat them at their home oval was fantastic.”

Key Melbourne players did not quite have the influence in the match that they usually have, but Prowse said that the Crows had not done particular homework on those individuals so to speak, but rather chose to focus on their own game.

“We just came out and wanted to play our game, so as defenders we were just wanting to play our way and that kind of involves taking them out of the play. But we focused on the way we wanted to play rather than focusing on them.”

As the Dees rallied in the last term, Prowse said the Crows’ leaders reiterated the message about composure and playing the game their way.

“We just wanted to play our game,” she said. “We didn’t want to be too hectic with the ball, we wanted to slow it down especially in those last two minutes of the game when we were ahead by a few points. But yeah we just needed to shut them down, obviously Melbourne have some elite markers, just being able to cut off their run, body early was just some of the main messages.”

Although the Crows’ next game is against a much lower ranked opponent in the Bulldogs, Prowse said the plan heading into the game will not change.

“We just go into every game the same way, so it’ll be the same as we treated this game,” she said. “We’ll go out there and play our best game of football and hopefully get the win.”
