Dockers dominate Saints with four quarter performance

With both teams having plenty to play for and keeping their finals hopes alive, Walyalup ended its two match losing streak, defeating the Saints by 24 points at Fremantle Oval.

With the two teams looking to find their way into the top eight, both were looking for consistent football with two rounds left in the regular season.

Walyalup came out strong in the first quarter, scoring four goals for the term, with the likes of Gabby O’Sullivan and Ange Stannett playing a key role. For the Saints, they couldn’t find any easy passages inside 50, with Walyalup forwards working well to punish the Saints defensive 50.

Walyalup continued to capitalise and make the most of their opportunities, dominating territory. Whilst Hayley Miller kicked the team’s only goal, her work rate opened up for the rest of the team, working the ball forward and not allowing the Saints to get any easy contested possession.

In the third quarter, wet weather footy came into play but the Dockers continued their quick ball movement and taking most of their opportunities with uncontested marks.

The Dockers continued to lift their work rate in the last quarter in the defensive end to seal the victory.

The Dockers dominated inside 50 (44-18) and disposal efficiency (66 per cent) to 54 per cent. The Saints were efficient rebound 50s (38-14).

Fremantle coach Lisa Webb discussed her side’s ball movement, tackling pressure on the sides victory.

“There’s some things we’ve been working on for all season,” she said. “It hadn’t quite pulled off but I feel we took an important step towards that, but we’ve got two games to go, one away and one at home.”

Webb also spoke about her side’s forward half performance and the players that stepped up.

“We got our method stronger around the ball,” she said. “Kiara has a strong impact in there, but I thought it was the other players, Easty, she’s a fantastic player and person. She worked really hard on her craft and she got some rewards today.”
