PREVIEW | 2024 WAFLW Finals: Claremont vs. West Perth

JUST one win separates reigning grand finalist Claremont or first time finalist West Perth from a spot in the 2024 WAFLW decider. The sides go head-to-head for the third time this season with the matches evenly split at one apiece, and now it all comes down to 80 minutes of action to see who will face East Fremantle in the grand final.

  • Team
  • Claremont
  • West Perth

FORM

Admittedly both these teams entered the finals series with some shaky form. Claremont had belted a tiring East Perth, but otherwise had only just got across the line in a few games to ensure it secured the double chance. West Perth had fallen in an even bigger slump since upsetting the Tigers and South Fremantle, with losses to Subiaco and Swan Districts. The Falcons did bounce back against Swan Districts with an impressive victory last week to reach this stage, while Claremont suffered a heartbreaking defeat to the Sharks.

TEAMS

CHANGES

Both sides have made minimal changes, with Claremont swapping in Bridie Garlick to replace Taylah Orzel, while the Falcons have brought back some height in Stacey Francis-Bayman and Tahlee McVee in exchange for Tia Bergin and Taylah McGorlick.

AFLW DRAFT TALENT

The Tigers have looked to a couple of State Academy members in top-ager Claudia Wright and bottom-ager Juliet Kelly who have stepped up across multiple positions. Mia Russo has been a standout for the Falcons this season stepping up to League level and looms as a threat for the opposition, while hard-running wing Megan Norbury has had her big games through the course of the season.

PREDICTION

A really tough game to pick. Both of these sides have had some incredible highs, and some forgettable lows in 2024. Claremont has the finals experience and is playing at home, while West Perth beat the Tigers last time and the Falcons have nothing to lose as underdogs in their finals finals series. It has the potential to be a cracking contest. Claremont in a tight one.
